Learn about the new 20% U.S. tariffs on airsoft guns and parts from Taiwan in 2025. Find out how duties affect rifles, pistols, and accessories.
Starting August 7, 2025, the U.S. government has introduced an additional 20% tariff on most products imported from Taiwan. This directly impacts the airsoft community, especially retailers and players who import rifles, pistols, and parts from Asia.
As an airsoft shipping service provider, M&W Airsoft Shipping is here to help you clearly understand what this means for your purchases and imports.
U.S. Duty Calculation for Airsoft Products
Import duty is calculated as: Base Duty Rate (MFN) + 20% Additional Tariff (Taiwan-only)
Rifles (AEG, GBBR, Spring Snipers)
Base: 3.9% With tariff: ≈23.9%
Pistols & Shotguns
Base: 0% With tariff: ≈20%
Parts & Accessories (magazines, grips, handguards, optics mounts, etc.)
Base: 3.9% With tariff: ≈23.9%
★ Important: Duty applies to product value only. Shipping fees are usually excluded, but couriers may add clearance or handling charges.
De-Minimis Threshold – Clarity and Policy Update
Historical Context (Pre–Late August 2025)
Historically, packages valued at USD 800 or less, and meeting de-minimis conditions, typically entered duty-free into the U.S. under streamlined customs processing. Many small retail or personal-use shipments benefited from this exemption in clearance and administrative efficiency.
Policy Shift (Effective ~August 29, 2025)
As of August 29, 2025, the de-minimis exemption was formally suspended for most shipments from all countries, meaning there is no longer automatic duty-free treatment based solely on value.
Under the new framework, even lower-value shipments may be subject to standard customs duties and processing, depending on country of origin and type of transport, and may require proper customs documentation and brokerage. There are also flat-duty options for certain postal shipments under specific tariff scenarios.
Impact on Airsoft Shipments
Small retail orders / personal-use buyersEven if below USD 800, can no longer assume duty-free clearance.
Bulk orders and large importersAlready faced tariff assessments; now everyone, regardless of order size, must be prepared for possible customs duties or fees.
Classification and documentationIncreasingly important to ensure accurate clearance and avoid misclassification.
Clear buyer communicationEssential for setting realistic expectations on import costs and responsibilities.
